You go to the store determined to only buy healthy options for your meals, but somehow the icecream, cheesecake, specialty cookies and boxed mac n' cheese talked you into putting them in your cart. The cinnamon rolls must have jumped in. How do we keep doing this?! *Ugh* It's so frustrating! Now, you don't want to waste your money by throwing it away and you don't want to hinder others by giving it to them. Plus, they taste so good...Here are some tips to stop that shopping binge!
1. Eat a healthy, filling meal before you head out. A veggie sandwich on whole wheat bread; a nice, big salad; or a delicious smoothie. Going to the store satisfied will keep you from buying things you will end up regretting.
2. Make a list before you head out. If it's not on the list, don't buy it. This step requires you to sit down and really think about what it is you need to eat this week. This list is of all the healthy things you find your self constantly out of. Write down foods high in protein and fiber, so that you can eat less and stay full. An apple and a stick of celery with natural peanut butter will keep you full much longer than a grilled cheese on white bread.
My favorite apples are Pink Lady Apples.
3. Lastly, if you can plan your day so that you go shopping after, you do your workout, eat your healthy meal and shower. You are already in a healthy mindset, why not finish the day off with a nice stroll through the produce section? Even if you've just finished your walk through the park or by the beach, you will be in a better mindset to choose healthful options than if you just polished off a candy bar along with the latest episode of "Sweet Genius".
This guy was really focused. I prefer a light jog on the beach, myself.
There you are. Some healthy shopping tips!
